Taking responsibility for you means owning your life and choices. One of the most powerful effects of cultivating a healthy and empowering mindset is taking actions that are aligned with your values. Having “intentionality” and discipline around your thoughts means that everything you do is in line with those thoughts. It becomes the foundation of your being, your story, if you will. Operating from that foundation means you act as the person who has those thoughts. Do that long enough and one day you won’t even realize that you have been choosing to become the best version of you in every moment – until you’ve become them. Become the version of you that you desire.
Responsibility vs blame
Actively taking responsibility for all your actions is key to unlocking the life you want. So what does taking responsibility mean? First of all, responsibility and blame are two different things. People tend to confuse them. Blame is accusatory or finding fault, while responsibility means taking ownership of the part you played in the situation you find yourself. It also means that you do not blame others for your situation. Blamingsomeone else for an outcome gives them the power and can leave you feeling helpless. Take back your power by owning your actions good or bad.
Taking control
Ultimately, taking responsibility means recognizing that you have the power to change your circumstances. In fact, it means that you have had it all along! This can be frightening because it means that there is no one coming to rescue you or to blame for your decisions. It means accepting that the shape your life takes is because of choices youhave made.
Taking responsibility also means being more conscious in your interactions with others. Being intentional and on the bright side celebrate your successes It is okay to feel good about the positive outcomes of your choices.
Every outcome from authentic choice-making, meaning decisions you have made believing that it is the best you can make at the time, does not go to waste. They are the foundations of your growth and deepen your own self-awareness.
In my life and line of work, I am fortunate enough to interact with amazing women from all over the world. They enrich my experiences and I am always struck by just how their mindsets and behaviors resonate with me. Case in point, the inaugural Inspire Summit recently held in Zimbabwe for women’s month. We were fortunate to have amazing and inspiring Award-winning actress Karen Abercrombie famous for her role as Miss Clara in the movie 'War Room' was present, Sherree Shereni, EminenceBusiness Academy Founder , gospel singer Janet Manyowa, and founder and CEO of Yanaya Lifestyle Nyaradzo Dhliwayo Moyo shared their journeys.
At the heart of their stories was the idea that you decide the standard to which you will live and then make the choices that support that.
Nyaradzo shared that everything you do has to be your best andmake an impact.
Sheree emphasized that no matter what circumstances are presented to you, you decide how to navigate them. Even if they are negative, you must at some point make the decision to say, this will not hold me back. Draw the line in the sand and know the buck stops with you.
Janet shared that when you structure your life with the perspective of generating more you will generate more.
Karen waited 13 years for her breakout role! She consciously chose what film projects or roles she would participate in and committed to that choice.
Through it all, these women did not complain and made no excuses!
Make the choice
It is one thing to talk about the right mindset and another to see it in action. These women’s lives are a testament to that. And it is never too late to develop the right mindset either. Growth and fulfillment are for everyone. Make the choice to experience them and stick to that no matter what.
